Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars

2012 ARCADIA Vineyard

For the Roman poet Virgil, ARCADIA was celebrated as a place of pastoral simplicity, where inhabitants lived in close harmony with nature. Purchased in 1996 and named ARCADIA VINEYARD for its bucolic setting, this 128-acre parcel is located in the new Coombsville AVA in southern Napa Valley, at the foot of Mt. George. This vineyard produces Chardonnay in a style similar to classic Burgundian Chablis. From the first release with the 1998 vintage, this single-vineyard wine has become recognized for its alluring perfume, delicate fruit, vibrant minerality, and understated oak.

Vineyards & Winemaking

Located on a strand of gently rolling hills, ARCADIA VINEYARD has gravelly silt loam soils that were formed in part from an inland lake that existed over 125,000 years ago. The cool climate and clonal diversity results in a Chablis-like Chardonnay that is aromatic, crisp and focused with distinct mineral notes.

To preserve the gorgeous aroma, delicate fruit, vibrant minerality and natural acidity of ARCADIA VINEYARD Chardonnay, this single vineyard wine was fermented and aged sur lies predominantly in neutral French oak barrels and did not go through malolactic fermentation. Our minimalist winemaking approach allows the vineyard to speak for itself.

Tasting Notes

This elegant Chardonnay is crisp, clean and focused with bright green apple and pear notes. The wine has a distinct floral aroma with a citrus background that is persistent all the way through the finish. On the palate, there is a light oak component to the wine that adds hints of baking spice and vanilla. ARCADIA VINEYARD’s purity and lively acidity make it a great match with pan-seared sea scallops with lime butter, crab cakes with creamy lemon aioli or fresh-shucked oysters on the half shell.
