Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars



Our Napa Valley collection of wines are crafted with the same approach to winemaking as our limited-production estate wines, using great care in harvesting and handling the grapes, and a measured hand in the cellar, to produce wines of supple power, elegance and age-worthiness. Like all of our wines, estate-grown grapes are the heart and soul of this Napa Valley Merlot, which is joined by high-quality fruit purchased from independent growers who farm their vines to our precise specifications.

Vineyards & Winemaking

Grapes from our estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District (now called Danika Ranch) form the core of this Merlot. We also sourced grapes from other prime vineyards in the Napa Valley to produce a fruit-driven Merlot with great balance, fresh acidity and minerality. We blended in 10% of Cabernet Sauvignon (mostly from FAY and S.L.V.) to give additional body and structure. After fermentation, this wine was aged for 17 months in medium-toast French oak barrels, 26% of them new.

Tasting Notes

This Merlot opens with an inviting nose reminiscent of strawberry cheesecake with a graham cracker crust along with notes of black cherry, cola and crushed sage. The wine is expansive on the palate with flavors of ripe raspberry and baking spices and a long red fruit driven finish. Try pairing this wine with a herb-crusted (thyme/sage) pork loin or a goat cheese quiche or soufflé.
