The Epiphany

The man who would become the founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars had been tasting Cabernet Sauvignon up and down the Napa Valley in search of a place he believed would be capable of producing wines of classic proportion and balance.

In 1969, he found his way to grape-growing pioneer Nathan Fay, whose vineyard below the rocky promontory of the Stags Leap Palisades was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what later became recognized as one of the world’s best areas for Cabernet. After tasting Nathan’s homemade 1968 Cabernet Sauvignon he knew, instantly, that he had found what he was searching for.
