Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars

Jackson Hole Wine Auction

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars will be participating in the Taste of Jackson Hole on Thursday, June 21 – pouring our 2009 KARIA and ARTEMIS and the 2008 SLV. We are donating the following auction lot:

A Stunning Collection of Estate Wines from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, a Napa Valley First Growth, presents this cellar-worthy collection of our iconic Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars first brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famous 1976 Paris Tasting, besting some of the most celebrated wines of Bordeaux. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars’ estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons—CASK 23, S.L.V. and FAY — are among the most highly prized and sought after Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide.

2007 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars CASK 23 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The wine is a blend of the most distinctive fruit from the S.L.V. and FAY vineyards. Made only in great vintage years, it is one of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide.

2007 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Up to seven S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon blocks contributed to this wine. Each lot was vinified and aged separately in small French oak barrels for 24 months, allowing the characteristics of each block to develop. In the latter stages of aging, the barrel lots were blended and the 2007 S.L.V. was born.

2007 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars FAY Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The FAY vineyard is where the history of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars began in 1969 when the winery’s founder tasted Nathan Fay’s 1968 homemade Cabernet. He knew instantly that he had found what he was searching for, classic elements of fruit and structure, suppleness and balance. A style dubbed “an iron fist in a velvet glove.” Today, FAY, along with S.L.V., remains the heart and soul of our winemaking.

All of our 2007 red wines are remarkably fruit-forward and accessible in their youth, yet remain true to Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars house style: refined, elegant and suggesting a long life in the cellar.

The lucky winner of this lot will also receive a copy of the book, Judgment of Paris. Author George Taber, a Time magazine reporter and the only member of the press to attend the dramatic tasting that transformed the wine industry, writes about this historic event and the colorful personalities involved.
