  • “I had my 25th wedding anniversary coming up, and thought that I might be able to find some wine from the year that Mrs. Cook and I were married. I found the 1984 vintage of this Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cab. The wine was simply amazing. The initial nose showed a bright anise note that faded quickly, revealing notes of berries, tobacco, saddle and dried herbs. On the palate, solid acidity had obviously done its job, holding up flavors of redfruits, tobacco, herbs and faint spice tones, with a bit of tannin still hanging in enough to keep the finish lingering long and with complexity. After 25 years, the wine still had the structure to stand up to Mrs. Cook's version of roast lamb in crust based on a recipe from the Sunset “Entertainment For All Seasons” cookbook, which was published in (you guessed it) 1984. ”
