1973 Stag's Leap Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

This was the wine that placed first in the 1976 Bicentennial tasting in Paris.

VINTAGE NOTES
A warm spring with no frost damage was an auspicious beginning. Vines set a record crop (our youthful vines were only producing a limited sized crop). A cooler than normal summer provided good fruit development through slow ripening. Harvest was completed without the threat of rain, and the largest harvest in California grape-growing history on record was safely fermenting. This was our first commercial vintage and the year that produced the Paris Tasting winner.

WINEMAKING NOTES
Harvested between 9/23 and 10/3 at 23.8 Brix. Fermented in oak tank; 100% malolactic fermentation; 21 months in French oak barrels.
