Served at the White House
When President George W. Bush hosted a state dinner for Aleksander Kwasniewski, the president of the Republic of Poland, on July 17, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' 1998 FAY Cabernet Sauvignon was poured to accompany the main course of pepper-smoked beef filet. The wine choice was particularly apt since our founder and proprietor traces his family's roots to Poland and Winiarski means "vintner's son" in Polish.
Nattress to Cook at Beard House
Vincent Nattress, chef-owner of Roux Restaurant in St. Helena, CA, and a long-time friend of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, cooked at the James Beard House in New York on January 23. This honor comes on the heels of Roux's inclusion in the San Francisco Chronicle's "Top 100 Restaurants for 2002." Vincent was formerly our resident winery chef and continues to cook for many of our events.
Winiarski Trophy in Silver
The Warren Winiarski Trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon, awarded by the International Wine and Spirits Competition, headquartered in London, is now embodied in a beautiful antique silver loving cup that dates from the era of George III. This year's winner, E. & J. Gallo, takes possession of the trophy until it is passed on to next year's winner in October 2003. Trophy winners are invited to spend a week at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, exchanging ideas and furthering global sharing of techniques and information to enhance quality wine production.
